You didn’t ask for this.
One moment life felt familiar, maybe even comfortable, and the next, something shifted. A phone call. A diagnosis. A door closing you thought would always be open. Suddenly, the ground beneath your feet doesn’t feel steady, and you’re not sure where to put your next step.
If you’re here, you might be in that in-between place, where the old life is gone, but the new one hasn’t yet taken shape. I want you to know: you’re not alone, and there’s no “right” way to navigate this kind of change.
When life changes without your consent, it’s natural to feel a mix of shock, anger, numbness, or even disbelief. The routines and identities you once relied on may no longer fit. There’s no timeline for “bouncing back” and truthfully, you’re not necessarily bouncing back at all. You may not want to. You’re moving forward into something new, even if that “new” isn’t yet clear.
Pause & Breathe — Before making big decisions, allow yourself to simply be where you are. Stop. Breathe. Notice what you’re feeling without trying to change it. Just acknowledge yourself.
Name the Change — Speaking the truth out loud (“I lost my job” or “My marriage has ended”) helps ground you in reality. Naming it doesn’t mean you like it, it means you’re brave enough to face it.
Reach for Steady Ground — Whether it’s a daily walk, talking with a trusted friend, or a grounding practice like journaling, find small anchors that remind you you’re still here.
Change you didn’t choose can feel like being dropped into a foreign land without a map. But even here, in this strange and unsteady place, there is still a path forward. One small step at a time. You don’t have to see the whole road right now. You only have to find a bit of steady ground beneath you today.
If you’re standing in this space and aren’t sure how to begin, I’d be honored to walk alongside you as you find your footing again. You don’t have to navigate it alone. Reach out for a Discovery Session so you can begin to move forward.
